Vitamin B Supplementation for Relief of Migraines
October 10th, 2009 | by admin |As a chiropractor, I have many patients who come for headache pain relief. Chiropractic treatment is effective for both tension headaches and migraines, but the symptoms differ in many ways. For instance, migraines generally take place on only one side of the head. The typical throbbing or pulsating pain is usually accompanied by nausea or vomiting. In addition, one-fifth of migraine sufferers have auras, visual disruptions an hour before a migraine attack, and disturbances such as pulsating light, lines or dots.
As you likely already know, prescription medication for migraines often carries dangerous side effects and over-the-counter drugs are generally ineffective. The good news is that there is mounting evidence that vitamin B supplementation not only can limit the frequency and severity of migraine episodes but, in some cases, can eliminate them altogether. Though vitamins B2, B6, B9 and B12 are all thought to be effective in treating migraines, recent studies suggest that B2 or riboflavin is the most beneficial. If you suffer from migraines, you may already have a list of foods that seem to trigger an attack. But, you may want to add an additional column and list the foods that will actually help your migraines. Good food sources of B vitamins are bananas, milk, yogurt, potatoes, liver, turkey, tuna, okra, cottage cheese, and eggs.
Here’s to your health!
